What is Normal? Am I? Are You? Is There Such a Thing?
Some say I'm not normal. They say I'm strange and sometimes a bit odd. Pardon me for asking, but what exactly is normal? Does anyone really know? Who gets to decide what normal is? The definition of normal in the dictionary is "occurring naturally". I assume I occurred naturally. Otherwise, I wouldn
't be here. Another definition is "conforming with a standard or pattern".
Another few definitions of normal occur on urbandictionary.com. I agree with them wholly.
Here is one:
" 1. An idealistic state of being that remains as such. Because the idea of such a state varies from being to being and any set standard is nonetheless someone else's idea of what it is this condition warrants satisfactory confirmation of being amongst the confirmed members of such class, by the individuals code.
2. Normal is about as concrete as the idea of "love". The meaning is constantly evolved to suit the momentary desires and/or needs of a single person, or group of people.
3. A tool of conformity"
Yet another, says this:
"A word made up by this corrupt society so they could single out and attack those who are different"
While there are many other creative definitions on there, that is my ultimate favorite. The point of existing is to be an individual, not to be normal. If we were all the same (normal), this sure would be a boring world. If normal means being subjected to someone else's belief system and ideals, I'll gladly be referred to as abnormal, which by the way has some interesting definitions as well.
In a traditional dictionary, the definition of abnormal is "not traditional, usual, or regular. not normal". I'll accept the title of abnormal. It sounds great to me. I'd rather not do the usual every day. A little variety can't hurt. In fact, I think I'll try and strive more to be abnormal than normal. Abnormal suits me much better.
Urban dictionary's definition of abnormal: "Everything that is NOT normal by definition."
