How to Get Up the Corporate Ladder and Still Be Liked
A person works not just to bring food to the table, but also to get some form of personal advancement or promotion. Job achievement feeds the ego and helps you do better at your work. However, sometimes, ambition can get the better of you and make you seem hated by your colleagues. You can climb up
the corporate ladder without being voted "most likely to be thrown out the window." Here's how.
1. Do your job well
You are responsible for your career, so make sure that you perform to your highest potential. If you do well, the office may trust you with more responsibility. This will show them that you have the necessary skills, competence and capabilities to handle a higher level of work. If you excel in your tasks, you can be recognized for it, and, eventually given a job or position that is more suitable for your abilities.
2. Impress your superiors.
If you are good at what you do, do not be shy about it. Make sure that your superiors know that your clients are happy with your work, or that you have helped improve sales, or that you have brought in more clients for your organization.
Always offer to help in a project, or volunteer to assist. If an opportunity to lead arises, make sure that you take it. If you do not let your superiors know that you are doing a good job, then no one will know what you can offer. They are the people that need to know these things.
3. Know your limits.
One of the things that you can do wrong is take on more work than what you can actually accomplish. Do not oversell yourself by taking on more work while you still have other things to do. This common mistake can lead to your failure, if you are not careful.
6. Surround yourself with people who have the same goal.
If you allow yourself to work with people of your caliber, or of even better caliber than you, then you are in a position where you can learn and be influenced by them. If you want to be successful, hang out with successful people. If you strive to be hard working, then work with hard working people. This simple act of association can greatly affect your performance and could increase or decrease your chances to succeed or fail.
7. Inquire about your promotion.
