Wine is quickly becoming the drink of choice not only when it comes to enjoying life's pleasures but also when it comes to health. In the middle of the 1990s, the world's view of wine totally changed when stories about the top health benefits that can be garnered from it has been released through media in what has been called as "French Paradox." Researchers have been so puzzled why French people are usually in tip top shape despite their diet loaded with saturated fat, and before long they discovered that the secret could have been their regular wine drinking. Research back then, with more coming up until now, revealed that the constant but moderate wine intake of the French has been protecting them from a lot health risks. Initially, this discovery of top health benefits has been credited only to red wine due to its resveratrol (a powerful antioxidant from skins of red grapes) content, but eventually even the white wine is showing much promise as well.
Here are just some of the top health benefits of wine:
- For men, wine has been seen to decrease the risks of cardiac arrest for men with hypertension.
- For women, wine has been discovered to lower the risk of ovarian cancer, promote stronger bones, and decrease the risk of getting a stroke.
- The skins of red grapes have been found to have certain anti-aging properties that can also be obtained through red wine.
- White wine contains certain antioxidants that have been observed to improve the function of the lungs.
- Wine drinking has been discovered to reduce the occurrence of coronary heart disease among adults.
- Senior-aged individuals who have been regular wine drinkers were seen to have blood vessels that are healthier than those who were not.
- Drinking wine has been seen to reduce certain types of gastrointestinal bacteria, the top cause of ulcer.
- A certain type of protein found in the skins of red grapes was observed to kill cancer cells
- Polyphenols, a substance also found in the skins of red grapes was discovered to clean arteries of stroke-causing clots.
