If you're thinking of a vacation this Christmas, or are planning for one years in advance, here are a few interesting destinations to consider.
1. Belize
Belize is gaining more popularity as a vacation alternative to Cancun or Disneyworld. What used to be the epicenter of Mayan activity centuries ago has become a pristine paradise for anyone looking to relax. The crystal blue waters is home to an incredibly diverse array of creatures and on shore who knows what lost temples or forgotten artifacts lay nestled in the dense outlying overgrowth. The beaches are clean, the weather is great and the locals are more than accommodating.
2. Vancouver
For many, Canada does not sound like an ideal vacation spot. Usually vacations automatically tend sandy beaches but Canada does have a lot to offer within it's expansive borders to compensate, and one of the most popular cities to visit is Vancouver. Take a walk through history Chinatown or try to climb the nearby Grouse Mountain. Other attractions like the Lynn Canyon Ecology Centre or the Seymour Conservations Reserve are perfect for naturalists. The view of the surrounding city is amazing as well and so it's no wonder that Vancouver will be hosting the upcoming 2010 winter Olympics.
3. California
If you still want to see those sandy white beaches, but you don't want to spend a fortune getting there, California is the next best option. Of course Disneyland is the main attraction for the kids, but there's plenty to do for adults, from visiting wine vineyards to the San Fransisco Museum of Modern art. It doesn't really matter what part of the coast you choose. The entire state is full of activities. In California you can enjoy the thrill of skiing and then take a short drive to enjoy a nice day laying out on the beach. If you are looking for an excursion, be sure to check out the Anza-Borrego Desert State Park. If you're looking for a party, just go to L.A.
