It's official! Jermain Taylor will be defending the World Boxing Organization and World Boxing Council Middleweight Championships against International Boxing Federation Junior Middleweight Champion Corey Spinks. The fight will take place on May 19 at the FedEx Forum in Memphis, Tennessee.

Should boxing fans be excited? Not at all. When this fight was announced, I scratched my head and said, "Here we go again".

Corey Spinks is the son of former heavyweight champion Leon Spinks who pulled off a monumental upset against Muhammad Ali back in 1978. Spinks is also the nephew of Micheal Spinks who won titles at the light heavyweight division and heavyweight division.

Taylor is up to his old tricks padding his record by fighting smaller fighters moving up one or two weight classes. In this instance, Spinks is really a small welterweight that is taking on the difficult task of fighting a bigger and stronger opponent. Spinks has never fought a full fledged middleweight in his life and has experienced problems with smaller opponents in the past.

Is Spinks talented? Yes, he is talented by possessing dynamic boxing ability, but I am concerned about Spinks lack of power and weak chin. His chin betrayed him in his lost to Zab Judah. How will Spinks be able to stand up to Taylor's power? How will Spinks be able to keep Taylor off of him throughout the fight?

In my opinion, Taylor should be facing the best and toughest contender in his weight class. That contender happens to be Edison Miranda. Why isn't this fight taking place? Miranda was impressive in his last outing against Allen Green.

Allen Green was the litmus test for Miranda. We know Miranda can punch, but could Miranda hold his composure if he couldn't get the early knockout? Miranda not only held his composure, he also showed great stamina and kept Green on the offensive the whole night. Miranda was overly impressive as he showed heart getting up from the canvas due to a flash knockdown.
