You do not have to type 50 words per minute, but a general knowledge of keyboarding. Much of your work will likely ave to be sent via email or some other file exchanging program. If you are allow to mail or bring in your assignments many instructors will still require you to have the assignment typed out.

You will need to know the basics of a word processing program, like how to open it, type something, and how to save a file. If you do not know how to do these simple tasks, you need to find someone who can teach you how. It really is fairly simple to learn the basics.

Depending on what your field of study is, you may be required to know the basic of using a spreadsheet program. Spreadsheet programs are much more complex than a word processing program, so it will take a little more time to learn.
