About two years ago, I bought my first Dirt Devil upright vacuum, a 12 amp Swivel Glide. This was just one in a long line of vacuums that I have owned over the last 25 years. No one vacuum has ever seemed to last me longer than a few months, a year at best. Poor suction, continuous belt breakage, mo
tors expiring, etc., have all led to me needing to replace them one after another, much sooner than one would expect. That the Dirt Devil 12 amp Swivel Glide has survived this long in my home is a testament to its quality and productivity.
Let me backtrack and tell you that I love to vacuum. A clean carpet is inviting to both visitors and those who live in a home. I would guess that I vacuum more than the average household does. Add in pets, kids, and a husband who works outdoors and often inadvertently tracks in some of his work with him, and any vacuum in my home is sure to get a workout and a half. When we installed new carpeting a little over two years ago, I announced that it was time for a new vacuum to anyone in my family who would listen. The one we had was less than a year old, but from day one, it had not picked up well, although it too was a 12-amp model.
The Dirt Devil 12 amp Swivel Glide with bag picked up well right from the start and still does some two years alter. The bag, Type U, is easy to install and replace. I do use the Hepa filter bags and the issue of blow back dust that is common with many vacuums that use bags is pretty much non-existent. Even when I used basic bags, the dust was not much of an issue to begin with. The front of the Dirt Devil 12 amp Swivel Glide also has a convenient bag fill guide.
The length of the cord is another plus with the Dirt Devil 12 amp Swivel Glide. It is long enough to vacuum an entire room without having to switch outlets. Sadly, I hear there is a new model of the Dirt Devil 12 amp Swivel Glide, the Ultra, that is bagless, but for the first time in all my years of buying vacuums, I do not have a good reason to give up my current one. One can dream though!
