Know which herbs are used for what aromatherapy purpose
Certain herbs have qualities that produce specific effects. Although sometimes two herbs can have the same function, people choose one over the other due to its effect on the person or as a result of personal taste and preference.

There are hundreds of herbs that are considered safe for human use, but not all of them may be processed to turn into aromatherapy oils. Aromatherapy oils are priced for their scents and their effect on healing and relaxation. Here are some of the common herbs used for making aromatherapy oils:

Bergamot - usually extracted using the cold-pressed method, is a medium-strength aromatherapy oil that has a fresh, citrusy/floral scent. In aromatherapy, it is used to relieve stress, depression and anxiety.

Chamomile - has a sweet scent that is a combination of fruity and herbal. It helps get rid of nervous tension, indigestion, headaches and rheumatism.

Sage - is an herb that has a warm, spicy scent and is often used in aromatherapy for the treatment of asthma, muscle cramps, respiratory problems, depression and stress.

Eucalyptus - popular for its woodsy and refreshing scent, is used to treat headaches, sinusitis, asthma and muscle aches. It is also effective as an insect repellant and air disinfectant.

Peppermint - is an aromatherapy herb that's refreshing and strong and known for its menthol scent. It is effective in treating headaches, bronchitis, migraines, joint pain and is also a natural insect repellant.

Rosemary - has a refreshing woodsy scent and is used for treating colds, fatigue, digestive problems and flu.

Sandalwood - is a sweet, woodsy herb that is often used in aromatherapy as treatment for nervous tension, fatigue, anxiety, sexual problems, stress and as booster for the immune system.
