With the destruction of the Old Republic and the near-extinction of the Jedi Knights, the self-proclaimed Emperor Palpatine and his Jedi-turned-Sith Lord acolyte, Darth Vader, rule almost unchallenged over the million star systems of the galaxy. Only the small Rebel Alliance stands in the evil GALACTIC EMPIRE'S path to total dominion.
Having ordered the construction of the DEATH STAR, an armored battle station with enough power to destroy an entire planet, Palpatine now dissolves the Imperial Senate and declares a state of emergency to combat the growing rebellion. Once the Death Star is operational, the Empire plans a campaign of "rule by fear" by crushing the Alliance with one swift stroke.
Little do the Emperor and his minions suspect, however, that a new hope has emerged from the desert world of Tatooine. A young moisture farmer named Luke Skywalker has joined the veteran Jedi Knight Obi-Wan Kenobi on a perilous mission to take stolen Imperial plans to the planet Alderaan. Now, as the two men seek a pilot with a fast starship for hire in the dimly-lit Chalmun's Cantina in Mos Eisley, the fate of the galaxy hangs in the balance.....
Although all of Hasbro/Kenner's Cinema Scene/Scene Packs mini-dioramas are among my favorite Star Wars collectibles, I do tend to like the few truly action-oriented three-packs a bit more than the ones from equally important but more placid scenes (Purchase of the Droids, Geonosian War Chambers 1 and 2) for the obvious reason that those lightsaber scenes really rock.
