I have a million passwords for almost every site that I visit on a regular basis on the web, and although I generally try to use either the same password or a similar one its not really a safe practice so I try to change them up. This can get confusing and cause you headaches if you forget which password you use for what login site. Now there is a way to store all your passwords in a safe place and unlock them with a master key password or a key-disk. KeePass is a simple password manager program or (safe) that allows you to manage your passwords in a secure way. You are able to put all of your passwords into a single database that is locked with a master password or key-disk. So you only have to remember one password to get at all of your other passwords. The database is encrypted so you don't have to worry as much about security; it uses the most secure algorithms currently known (AES and TwoFish).
KeePass is also a free program to use, it's an open source project and its OSI certified. You can get a copy of the free software tool here (http://keepass.info/)
KeePass has a wide range of great features included in the program, security is a big plus and as I said before they use the most advanced encryption available, and not only are your passwords encrypted the entire database is. So your passwords, user names, notes, etc are all protected with the encryption. Then you have two options for unlocking your KeePass database you can have a master password to open it up or you can have a key-disk (file) which can be on a floppy disk, USB stick, or even a CD but don't lose it. If you really want a secure database you can combine the master password and key file so you have to enter both before you can open the database. This means it's pretty secure. You can also lock an account to the current Windows user account if you want, so you would have to know the users Windows logon to get to their database.
KeePass not only keeps your passwords secure it also will let you export your password list to certain file types like TXT, HTML, XML and CSV so you can use the password list with other applications. There are other formats that are supported through KeePass Plug-ins.
