Howard Stern has been promoting voting for the "worst performer" in an effort to derail the American Idol TV show.

FOX has dominated primetime TV for the last few years with their hit show, American Idol. This phenomena has caused more than a little heartburn among TV executives in Hollywood who have sought to
Howard Stern Tries to Destroy American Idol
derail the hit.

Now shock jock, Howard Stern says that he has found a way. There is a new website created by a 24-year-old American idol fan that asks people to support the "Worst performer". This in itself brings a different spin on the hit TV show, because Sanjay Malakar's staying power is being equated to being the Worst Performer, an obviously dubious distinction.

Malakar is young, cute and engaging when it comes to his interactions with Simon Cowell. But the boy is an off-key, lyric-forgetting, strangely coiffed teenager. This is not to say that he is the worst contestant to come down the pike. In season one, Nikki McKibbin was pretty bad, and there have been others.

This time Howard Stern is making an impact. "We're corrupting the entire thing," said Stern on his Sirius Satellite Radio show last Thursday after the weekly results were in. Sanjaya made it into the top nine finalist.

It is a sad thing that Stern finds so much glee from this. "All of us are routing 'American Idol.' It's so great," said Stern, "The No. 1 show in television and it's getting ruined." Stern says that he hopes to turn the competition into a farce and destroy its popularity in the process. Let's not discuss what he's going to do to a 17-year old's ego, by having America dub him the "Worst Idol" contestant. Shame on you Howard Stern!

The American Idol show is breaking through the roof of ratings that it has created in previous years. It draws an average of 32 million viewers every week, which equates to nearly 50 percent more than the next highest rated show.

First of all dont you people realize all Howard Stern and others like myself are on a mission to do is save this country its music industry. You people should be ashamed of yourselves. Do you realize the mindless garbage you are watching. American Idol is probably the trashiest show ever made. You people make me sick... just sick to my stomach...i am ashamed to be an American because of this show. You think this show creates musicians?...Music artists? NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Eric clapton, Bob Dylan, Janis Joplin, Bono, Sting, Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison, Santana, etc these are musicans. Respectable individuals. People who write meaningfull lyrics and compose intelligent music, rather then shell out some piece of shit that some fat white guys in a room wrote for them. DO YOU REALIZE THAT NONE OF THESE AMERICAN IDOLS PLAY INSTRUMENTS. OMG HOW PATHETIC. SO WHAT YOU CAN SING BOO HOO, Jerry Garcia, Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, and James Taylor had great voices but they could PLAY THEIR INSTRUMEN

Of course I would not buy his album. I have never bought any album from American Idol. Hopefully my "vote for Sanjaya" t shirts have arrived in the mail today, so i can wear it while i watch America Idol tonight and vote for Sanjaya!

Sorry Andrew! We passed the judges stage about a month ago. The people that are getting thru now are all audience voted...that is the problem!

Obviously he can sing somewhat good if he made it this far... the judges judge who get further and further until the public voting starts, right?

I agree that it's all in the vote. But if you noticed this week Sanjaya is getting a little cocky, because he THINKS he can sing....HE CAN'T...all the people voting for him to win are making a laughing stock out of him, because none of them will buy his crappy records. will you , Jeepguy?

A lot of this is about perspective. Your idea of what constitues ruining american idol is dependent upon the notion that is retains something of value to corrupt in the first place. And this 'ruin' is taking place via its own established channels--the vote.

Do you all see what is going on here. Howard Stern and everyone is causing more and more people to watch this show. In fact as I listen to Howard Stern during the day, many callers call in and say that they have never watched the show before, but they are now. Even though it is to vote for Sanjaya. That is why the ratings are huge this season....controversy brings ratings. This great....What will I be doing tonight?.....voting for Sanjaya. Me along with millions of other Stern listeners!

Donna, I agree. I just wonder how this will affect him down the road. And what if he actually wins? You all have excellent discernment about Howard Stern. Yes, Jean, I agree, we've even got some here in our community...I've had email from one :-)Richelle, if Stern can really succeed in getting the worst singer to win, what do you predict will be the future of the show? Other than letting people cast their own votes, it would sorta lose the point of being American Idol!

how will it destroy the program? maybe it will make them revamp the concept.
