Every writer has writer's block at some point in their career. I have compiled a list of ways to make your writer's block less disruptive and help you to get out of your writer's block faster.

1) Keep a small journal or notebook with you at all times. The best ideas are quickly forgotten, so if you write them down quickly, you will be able to remember them. This gives you ideas to look at when writer's block strikes. Also write down interesting things people say. This will help for dialog
ue when writing a book or a short story.

2) Write extra when you have moments of frenzied inspiration. If you normally write one article a day or one book a year, write two when you get the ideas or the chance and hold one back for those times when you cannot get an idea. This will keep the money rolling in smoothly. I'm pretty sure Steven King does this, he all but admitted it in his novel,"Bag of Bones". Many other writers, including myself have done this.

3) Keep up with the news, get magazines, and read other people's articles. This gives you ideas. When you get an idea from the news or other people's work, always research it. Sometimes you can actually make your article better than the one that gave you the idea in the first place! Another good reason to always research is that the original article writer may have the facts wrong and it is not a good idea to be spreading around wrong information.

4) Draw on your personal experience. Have you recently taken a trip? Do you or someone you know have a hobby? Does someone you know have an addiction? Just about anything can be used to write an in-depth article that could help someone.

5) Subscibe to newsletters, fanclubs, etc. These can be great idea generators. Associated Content has a few of these newsletters. I subscribe to the weekly content one which has given me 3 ideas in one week! there's also things like Yahoo Alerts, which will send to your inboxarticles on anytopic you choose: entertainment, Braking News, Odd News, or something specific, like if you want only articles on, lets say Harry Potter, Yahoo will send it to you. This is just like the newspaper clipping services, but free!

  • Keep a book with you
  • write extra in moments of frenzied inspiration
  • join a writer's group
