I just purchased my first desktop computer, the Dell dimension xps 410. The computer cost me about $2200 with some discounts and special offers. I have had some problems with it, but overall it is a great co 
mputer. This model of Dell is specifically for music and photo needs, which I purchased it for, as well as for games. In this sense, it has incredible benefits. The downsides included no parallel port for an older printer I own, and Windows vista has had some small issues. I recommend upgrading some of the items, such as the hard drive and ram capacities, and getting microsoft publisher, etc.

The first thing to do is go down through all the specifications before ordering and determine what you will need. This can make or break your satisfaction with the computer. For instance, if you have millions of photos you want to store on the hard drive, make sure to upgrade appropriately. I chose the 500 gb hard drive memory. The highest available was a dual 500 gb- so total of 1000 gb storage. I upgraded to ensure having enough memory to store all my photos plus ones I will take once starting into the realm of professional photography. I can always get the other 500 gb installed into the computer later. I chose to pay extra for the advanced photos, music, and games package. I am interested in working with photo editing and printing, and creating music and editing music as well. I also chose Microsoft Small Business 2007, the most expensive package of microsoft. This gives me publisher, where I can make brochures and business cards, outlook for email, and the software for starting up and maintaining a small business. I also have word processing. Finally, I chose to have two cd/dvd burning drives, and a 13-in-1 media card reader. So far, I have had very good luck with these features. I have designed and printed my own business cards, I have made cd's of my movies that I recorded on my sony cybershot camera, and I have loaded and stored thousands of photos from my digital camera memory sticks.
