Math U See is a revolutionary approach to math that is unlike anything I have come across so far in choosing a Math curriculum for my family. All of the other programs I have seen use repetitive worksheets, drills that simply just force you into memorization mode. With Math U See, my kids are actual
ly begging me to do math with them each day because it is hands on interactive and to them it is actually fun. We could sit there and do math several hours a day if I let them.
The DVD that comes with the program has the instructor go over the lesson in a very humorous way that even holds the attention of my 4 year old daughter. The lesson guide allows me to teach all the math concepts through games and story telling. The children actually "see" the math problems being solved which helps them to retain and understand everything that is happening. Finally abstract problems can now become real and concrete.
Math U See also has worksheets in where they can write out the solutions they worked out with manipulatives. My 5-year old son can now add and subtract multi-digit numbers without having to even look at the manipulatives or count on his fingers. My son is currently taking the Math U See Alpha program which mainly focuses on addition and subtraction of single-digit numbers, but he has grasped the concept so well that he can perform advanced calculations using the principles he learned using Math U See.
Another great addition is the Skip Counting CD which has catchy tunes that my children learn and sing, which actually teaches them to skip count by 2,5,10, etc... They have begun memorizing the songs and they quietly sing it back to themselves when they need it for a math problem.
My kids can work at their own pace. Going as quickly or as slowly as they need in order to truly understand what is being taught. This approach allows for them to not be bored or feel overwhelmed.
