The Smashing Pumpkins, who have not toured since their breakup in 2000, are returning to the touring circuit to promote their new album, Zeitgeist, which is due out July 7th in the United States. Recently, the band released two North American tour dates in addition to their previously announced dates in Europe.

The Smashing Pumpkins will headline the Virgin Music Festival this year in Baltimore, Maryland on August 4th and August 5th according to their website. This is thus far their only tour date officially announced for the United States. However, the band will travel north to Toronto, Ontario on the 26th of August, so those of you who live in the northern United States will have a chance to see them at that particular leg of the Virgin Festival. These two tour dates will see the Smashing Pumpkins headlining the Festival along with the Beastie Boys and a recently reunited Police.

Tickets will go on sale sometime in the following weeks for these two shows, so it is advisable to be on the lookout. The Smashing Pumpkins were immensely popular during the 1990s as a touring band and their reunion is expected to draw equally large crowds. Therefore, tickets for these tour dates are likely to go very quickly. Although no other North American tour dates have been released thus far, more are bound to follow in the coming weeks. Check out the band's website at www.smashingpumpkins.com to subscribe to the mailing list and get tour updates as they are released.
