A building and construction inspector does more than you may think. Among the tasks they perform are the examination of highways, sewers, water systems, dams, and buildings. A building inspector must learn the various zoning regulation, building codes and the construction and repair process.

When inspecting a structure, the inspector will first inspect it visually. In addition, a construction, building, inspector will have tools to help him do his job. Some of these tools are meters, survey instruments, and tape measures. If the building inspector finds a problem with the construction of a building, bridge, or street for example he immediately notifies the contractor of the problem. If the violation cannot be corrected immediately or there is immediate danger, the inspector can stop all work on the project immediately.

A building inspector will abide by all safety requirements when visiting a work site. They will wear personal safety equipment at all times when on the worksite. Different building inspectors with usually have certain areas of expertise at when it comes to inspection.

When a new construction site is beginning the building inspector make his first inspection. They will keep a check on the project as it develops with further inspection as time goes on. If natural disasters or occurrences such as earthquakes or tornados are frequent the inspector will make adaptations to his inspections.

Building inspectors will abide by both federal as well as local building codes. When we think of building inspection we think of structural issues. However, a building inspector will also inspect buildings for fire safety.
