New London is halfway between New York City and Boston, providing a wonderful sightseeing adventure while in the Northeast.New London has an emerging art scene that is often on display at the Hygenic Art Gallery, where new and established artists display their diverse pieces. The Hygenic is located in the heart of downtown New London, nestled between local shops and restaurants. Another center that displays community art, as well as art from the 18th through 20th century is the Lyman Art Museum located on the campus of Connecticut College. After perusing the collections, the college arboretum offers views of the natural art of Connecticut, including a pond, wildflowers, and various trees.
No visit to New London would be complete without spending some time in or by the water. Where the Long Island Sound meets the Thames River is Ocean Beach Park with a swimming pool, boardwalk, miniature golf, and other various recreational activities. For a more leisurely view of the water, there is the newly constructed half mile promenade known as Waterfront Park.
