5 Steps for Head First Entry

Every summer swimming pools, lakeside recreation areas and rural swimming holes find a gathering of kids eager to throw off summer's heat and enjoy the fun of water activities. Chief among these can often be diving. Children learn a lot from other children about having a good time. When your childre
n see older friends or siblings diving head first into the water and coming up whooping and hollering with joy, they will quickly decide that diving is an activity for them too. Of course the truth is diving can be both a great competitive, even Olympic, sport and it can also be something that's just plain fun to do. Either way, the best way for your children to get involved for the first time with diving may very well be for you to get involved in teaching your child to dive.

Use Progressive teaching. If you are a competent swimmer and diver, then chances are that you can do a fine job teaching your own child to dive. You may want to consider first the fact that being able to do a skill and actually being able to teach that skill to others, especially your own children , are two very different things. Before you rush off to the neighborhood pool to give our child his or her first diving lesson, have a plan of attack. If you feell unsure or uncomfortable about teaching this skill don't take chances, find a Red Cross Swimming and Diving program and enroll your child.
