Methods to Improve and Control Stuttering

Do you suffer from a condition of stuttering? Does professional speech therapy not seem to improve your stuttering and impaired speech? There may be self healing and self therapy methods, practiced in your own home, to improve the complications of stuttering and impaired speech.

Stuttering is a speech impairment of a complex origin. For many patients, the true cause and origin of stuttering will never fully be understood and, even if it was, a fast and easy method to remedy stuttering is not commonly found on the horizon. While neurological involvement is believed to be involved, the patient who sufferers from stuttering will commonly report the condition, of whatever origin, has made a profound impact on the quality of life.

Self healing and self therapy of stuttering begins first with an acceptance that a problem does exist and that a remedy to the speech impairment, while a long and tedious road, can be achieved. Once this acceptance and mental process is in place, the healing process of stuttering can begin.

As part of self healing, there are basic guidelines which must be followed to ensure the stuttering is placed under control. First, as I'm sure you've already been taught, it is important to approach all attempts of speech in a methodical manner, speaking slowly and with intent. Since much of a stuttering complication is associated with pressure of time, learning to bypass and ignore time sensitive speech is important to the relaxation process.

Next, always stutter in the open. Do not ever try to hide the fact that you stutter. Stuttering is a condition that you should embrace and work to improve. By hiding the speech impairment, you will find your stuttering may become more significantly impaired due to emotional and psychological complications which, in turn, impact your neurological field.

  • Reducing the use of body language can improve stuttering
