Dingo Pet Food Recall

Hot on the heels of the recent pet food recall, there is another company calling back its products in the name of safety. Eight in One is recalling packages of its Dingo brand dog, cat, and ferret food. The reason for the recall this time is due to concerns over salmonella poisoning. The company says that the bacteria could affect both the animals and the people who are handling the treats.

The products affected are Dingo Chick'N Jerky for dogs, Dingo Kitty Chicken Jerky for cats, and Dingo Chicken Jerky for ferrets. The company release states that these products were sold at Target, PetSmart, and other retailers. Eight in One also states that the Food and Drug Administration is aware of this recall.

If you are worried that you or your pet has been affected by the tainted Dingo treats, there are some signs to watch for. In humans, some of the symptoms include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, abdominal cramping, and fever. Salmonella poisoning can also result in more serious conditions such as arterial infections, endocarditis, arthritis, muscle pain, eye irritation, and urinary tract infection, though these cases are rare. Make sure you wash your hands thoroughly after handling any Dingo products to help ensure any bacteria is gone.

Pets with salmonella infections may be lethargic, or sleepy, diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, fever, and vomiting. Some pets may only have decreased appetite, fever, and abdominal pain. It is possible for pets to be carriers and spread the bacteria to other animals or humans. If your pet has been in contact with any of these Dingo treats, contact your veterinarian.

The company has only received one report of poisoning in a dog, and no reports in humans. If you have purchased any of the Dingo Chicken Jerky Treats, you should stop using the treats immediately. Eight in One has told consumers who are looking to inquire about refunds to call their Consumer Affairs hotline number at 1-888-232-9889.

Rosie's website: http://www.dogster.com/dogs/614878 Our pet Rosie, a 3 year old Chihuahua was poisoned from Chinese made Bestro's Jerky Chicken Strips #77849 00006 1 We have this contaminated bag. Up until today we never had any idea what happened but now with Wal Mart pulling this quietly from their selves. (I brought my treats at Wal Mart, Glendora, California) I truly believe that is why she died. Rosie wants all dog owners to be aware of this and a Total Recall of this chinese junk pet food treats so other puppies don't slowly suffer is she did. We are totally heartbroken and will never forget Our Sweet Gypsy Rose! Since Wal Mart had this problem before, why didn't they pull all that Chinese junk off the first time? Our Rosie will still be alive! Is Wal Mart concerned about people and their Pets or Money? You figured it out. It's really scary when you realize just how vulnerable food supplies are, pet AND human.

Great article. Human food and even pet foods are now contaminated. Makes a person afraid to buy things from the store to feed our families.

Awesome coverage! Thank you. I have ferrets and use 8 in 1 for them. Good to know that it was only the jerky treats.
