When looking for digital cameras these days, it can be very overwhelming! There are so many choices out there. One of the top companies, Canon, released the Canon Powershot SD800 IS recently, and this camera has seen high praise. This camera is the follow-up to the Canon SD700 released in 2006. We have come to expect a lot from Canon, because of their focus on quality and innovation. Does the SD700 live up to the Canon name?Upgrades in the new SD700 include a wider lens, and a higher resolution image sensor. This makes this camera a good choice when shooting portraits or other shots that need to be a bit wider than normal. This point and shoot camera comes jam packed with features including 7.1 megapixel Digital ELPH, 3.8x optical zoom, image stabilizer, large 2.5 in. LCD monitor with wide angle viewing, ISO 800 which reduces image blur and enhances low-light shooting capabilities, and a print/share button for easy printing/downloading through the included USB chord.
The ISO 800 is a good option to have, although the images show some signs of image noise at that high setting. It is recommended to not go higher than the ISO 400 setting. At this level you can still get nice 4x6 pictures that are not too blurry. Keeping the ISO setting below 200 will keep all of your images looking crystal clear.
The performance of this camera is very competitive with a shooting speed of about 1.5 seconds. Continuous shooting speeds are right around 2 seconds. Not bad!
The design of this ultra light-weight camera is exceptional and is among the best in it's highly competitive class. The layout of the controls is in a typical Canon fashion. Simple to use and functional. You can also purchase an optional underwater case for camera which is great to take on vacations and get those underwater shots. This camera is worth the $300 price tag, although some may find this out of their price range. If this is the case you may want to look at the Canon SD 700, Canon SD600, or the Sony DSC-T10 which can be good alternatives.
