Anyone who has ever been through high school knows that there is no bigger waste of time than your Senior year. Most colleges have already made their decision and those that haven't pay no attention to a students final year. SAT's and ACT's have been taken, and taken again in some cases. All major research papers have been done and you are basically given a nine month extension on your summer break. So this begs the question of what to do with an entire class of kids who could care less about what they're being taught? Answer, teach them something that matters.

As students spend their senior year getting hammered at illegal Friday night keggers and passing lovey-dovey looks to their highschool sweathearts, they could be preparing for the rest of their lives. Many students spend their senior year taking classes like physics, gym, british literature, and U.S history. Now, I would never say that these classes are umimportant in and of themselves, but lets be honest, not one high school senior is retaining a single thing learned in these classes. The reason why? Because what they are learning will no longer help them get into college and it will never help them in the real world.

The problem is that teenagers nowadays are not being taught practical information. Schools are far too concerned with what will get them better funding and less about doing their job: Preparing kids for the future. And parents are far too busy making ends meet to have time to teach their children everything they need to know.

When I was 18 I was clueless. I had no idea what i was doing. And now at the ripe old age of 25, I regret everyday that I didn't know then what I know now. With that in mind there are two things a high school senior should be taught. 1. How to survive 4 years of college and get a degree. 2. How to achieve, maintain, or repair your credit.

Takeaways
  • What you should know before graduating from high school.
  • College is about finishing.
  • Good credit is key to a less stressful life.
