April Fools' Day Pranks for the Office

Got a Grudge to Pay Back?

Few opportunities in life offer the squelch value of the office April’s Fool’s Prank. Not only do they make significant retelling value for the next corporate retreat, but it makes for a way to get even with someone in your office for whatever score you’re keeping.

Depending on how brutal you want to be, and how many people you want to be in on it, the work setting of an office provides the perfect setup for a carefully planned April Fool’s Day Prank.

1. The Desperate Fiancee.

Hire an actor or actress to come to your target’s office and bring flowers, candy, and a ring (in a velvet box) to propose to an unsuspecting co-worker. If they are not let in, have them spill incriminating details of the target’s personal life (known in every office) until an embarrassed staff ushers them through. Furnish the actor with emails written in purple prose to and from the staffer’s email address for interested onlookers to look over.

Have the receptionist usher the person in, hoping for a romantic event. As many people as can be brought in on the “hopeful” aspirants’ nervous hopes, the better. When the actor confronts the stranger, a tableau occurs. They will go down on one knee, giving an emotional plea to share their lives with the stupefied victim in the most heartfelt manner imaginable. Extra points for incriminating details or an off-key serenade. The entire office will witness this, never forget it, and detail to countless others your target’s resulting shamefaced denial or spark of interest, as the case may be. If the client or the big bosses are there, the more people that witness this the better.

2. The Call from the Uberboss.

This is best when the spouse, girlfriend, or boss’ secretary is in on it. The night before, have a message left on the victim’s voicemail that a call from the uberboss or someone in the top tiers of your friend’s uptight company management will be personally calling at 8:00 am. This is to be totally confidential, not one word said about the call. To anybody.
