Paula Abdul and American Idol were synonymous since the beginning, but Paula Abdul quit American Idol anyway, according to her Twitter account. Paula Abdul quit American Idol after some intense contract negotiations, and now Paula Abdul told American Idol, through Twitter, that they are over. There still may be doubt as to whether Paula Abdul quitting American Idol is perminant, or if it is a contract negotiation ploy. But for the moment, Paula Abdul is American Idol's most positive judge no more.
Paula Abdul announced she quit American Idol on her Twitter account - as pretty much all big announcements are made on Twitter nowadays. For the last several weeks, Paula Abdul and American Idol were trying to work out a deal that would keep Abdul on the show, as ninth season auditions approach.
But according to Twitter, Paula Abdul is quitting American Idol now, Twitting that "With sadness in my heart, I've decided not to return to IDOL." The announcement that Abdul is leaving American Idol comes just three days before Abdul and the judges were to go to Detroit to begin American Idol auditions.
This off season, American Idol and Paula Abdul have already gotten a head start on their usual off-stage drama. Questions persisted on whether Abdul, Kara DioGuardi, both of them, or none of them would leave American Idol before the ninth season. Very few people were pleased with having four judges on American Idol last season, so one of them was likely to go.
DioGuardi announced she was staying for her second season, while Paula Abdul is now likely to leave. That is not the outcome a lot of American Idol fans likely wanted.
For eight years, Paula Abdul has easily eclipsed her previous fame as a cheerleader and recording artist, as American Idol turned her into one of the most famous judges in America. It also occasionally made Abdul into a drunk-looking, overly positive, occasionally scandal-ridden figure during her time on Idol.
