While I had never read the novel from Christopher Paolini, I would have to say that generally the books are better than the movies. There is so much in books that you just can not put onto a movie screen, so much more than any actor can speak of in a phrase... I believe that books have more feeling and ideas than the movies.

But, to review the movie of Eragon, I thought that it was an awesome new adventure flick! The graphics in this feature movie are top-notch, and there is not a moment in the movie were the animation and special effects look "fake" compared to everything else. In the land of Alegasia, a young boy of seven-teen years, named Eragon, came across a dragon egg in the forest. The land was ruled by an evil king, Galbatorix, and his dragon. Galbatorix was a former dragon rider who betrayed, hunted down, and killed all dragons and all of the dragon riders(so he thought).

It is up to Eragon and his dragon, Sepheria, to bring life back to the land from Galbatorix's rule. This fantasy/ adventure movie involves magic, elves, monsters, and heroes. When the dragon egg hatches, out came this cute little blue dragon. When Eragon reached down to touch the little dragon, he got scarred on his hand. Within a day, the little dragon learned to fly, with Eragon's help, and then she grew into her full adult size. Sepheria and Eragon can hear each others thoughts, which is pretty neat. Sepheria is breathes fire, has a different sort of vision like heat sensing and zoom, and can give Eragon "magic powers".

Eragon learns about dragon riders, dragon's, and the evil king from a new friend named Brom, who was a former dragon rider himself. His dragon was killed while she was trying to protect him. When the dragon's die, the riders may live on. But, if a rider dies, so does his dragon.

I rented this movie and watched it before I let my children see the movie themselves. The movie is rated PG, and it is kid approved in my home. Even though there are fight scenes, monsters, and magic, the fight scenes are quick and action packed, yet there is no gore or blood or violence that shows to make the rating in this movie go up to an R rated film.
