Hollywood movie star John Travolta was forced to make an emergency landing in his private jet on Monday night.

The actor was piloting his private jet from Germany to New York after promoting his new movie release of "Wild Hogs" in Germany. Travolta, a licensed pilot, landed safely at Shannon Airport in Ireland after his Quantas Boeing 707 suffered "technical difficulties" during flight over Ireland.

The 'Pulp Fiction' star was said to be uninjured from the incident but was shaken. The 53 year old Travolta went on to hire another plane and completed the trip back home to New York as his jet was grounded for repairs.

"If he hadn't made it to Shannon, it could have been the end of him. You could tell that he was very relieved," a source revealed.

The incident was confirmed by a Shannon Airport spokesman.

"John Travolta was diverted to Shannon due to technical difficulties," the spokesman said.

Travolta went through a similar mid-air drama eight years ago when his plane lost an engine, causing him to make an emergency landing in Boston.

The plane-loving Travolta, who earned his pilots license in 1974, owns five aircrafts. His Florida home has its own 1.4 mile long runway. He and his wife, actress Kelly Preston, even named their son Jett.

His 34 seat Quantas Boeing 707, named 'Jett Clipper Ella' in honor of his son and daughter Ella Bleu, has three bedrooms and three dining rooms.

Travolta has flown 30,000 miles in the last year.

Travolta is an Academy Award-nominated actor, singer, scientologist, entertainer, and pilot. He became known in films during the late '70s by establishing himself as a leading Hollywood actor in films such as "Saturday Night Fever" and "Grease." He also appeared in the TV sitcom "Welcome Back Kotter."

He fell out of the Hollywood limelight in the '80s before resurrecting his film career in the 90s appearing in films such as "Pulp Fiction" and "Get Shorty." He was typecast as a disco stud and 70s icon due to his work in the late 70s.

Trying to change his image, he turned down several starring roles in the 80s for films that went on to be huge successes, such as "American Gigolo" and "Splash."
