Season 5 of the Shield was the best season to date. It is one of the top shows on television. It is hard to believe that the writers and producers of the show could keep the quality up for another season. After watching the Season 6 premiere I believe that Season 6 will be just as good as Season 5. Last night, Vic Mackey and his strike team began looking for Lem's killer. They were up to their same old tricks, knocking down doors without search warrants, threatening witnesses and trying to keep their heads above water.

This episode really started to get good when detective Cavanaugh dug deep into investigating the strike team. I was happy to see that Oscar Winner Forrest Whittaker will be in the upcoming season. Cavanaugh has been investigating the strike team since season 5 but has not been able to make any of his accusations stick. This season he is investigating Vic for the murder of Lem (which of course he didn't do). Cavanaugh is convinced that Mackey is involved and will go to any means to see him pay for it.

The highlights of last night's episode were towards the end. The first was when Shane found out the Lem did not turn any of the strike team members in, even though they were told otherwise by Aceveda. You could see that Shane was devastated to hear that he killed his friend for nothing. It will be even harder for Shane to keep what he has done a secret as he was already suffering with guilt (contemplating shooting himself, giving himself as a hostage to a hostage taker) and now his guilt will be exponentially greater now that he knows what he did was in cold blood with not benefit to him or the strike team.
The other highlight of the episode was at the very end when we find out the lengths that Cavanaugh will go to put Vic away. The cop that would not even bend the rules for his own wife even though every other cop in the Barn would have, was planting evidence in Vic's apartment. Either Cavanaugh really thinks Vic is guilty or he just doesn't care, but Vic is definitely changing him, like so many others that have come before him. It will be exciting to see how Vic can get out of this.
