5,000 page views was simply not on my mind when I created an article about Anna Nicole Smith. Sure, I knew I would get more page views than normal. But, my reason for choosing that topic was in two parts. The first reason was that while I don't admire all of her work, Anna Nicole's story was very sad and tragic. I was deeply concerned about what would happen to her baby, Dannielynn and I just wanted to get the word out in a nonjudgmental way. The second part was obvious. Plainly put, I knew that the mention of her name would give me publicity. I was hoping that some who read my article would also read some of the others, which is where my true passion lies.

So, what did I do to make my article stand out? First, I had to be writing about the latest developments. To my advantage, I just got a breaking news alert about her autopsy report. That was great. Now I had my subject. Next, I had to give it a catchy title. I went with "New Evidence: Anna Nicole Smith's Autopsy Report". I also had to make my article stand out from the other Anna Nicole articles drowning the web. I was a step ahead with the breaking news. But, I would also have to make my article good. I believe I succeeded in that area. I read all I could about Anna Nicole to prepare myself. Keeping with my style of writing news stories, I had to throw in extra tidbits to satisfy the reader. I don't like to just recite the hard facts without any substance.

The final touch was making sure my article had searchable terms. Since I already had Anna Nicole in there, that was a start. I also added other keywords, like "Larry Birkhead", "Howard K. Stern", "custody", Dannielynn", "paternity" and many more that people might use when searching for information on Anna Nicole. That part was easy, considering my topic. I really only had to change a few sentences to add a couple keywords. My story pretty much already had tons of those keywords without me trying to put them in.

Thanks Jolie. I have since surpassed that number in views with other pieces, but I think this will still be helpful. :-)

I know Christina. They just found out Larry Birkhead was the father, so we'll see what happens now...
