It's just about time to jump back into the spring of things and get the cleaning out of the way and start decorating for spring. But how can one decorate on a limited budget? You can start by hitting the flea markets and refinishing furniture or picking up pieces you like here and there. But the idea today is how to refinish that old kitchen chair with a new spring twist.

When your out looking for that perfect chair pick something that will go with your tastes. Usually you can pick up an old worn kitchen chair for about $5.00 or less. You will need the following supplies.

1. Pint of paint in a fun spring time color (my choice was lavander)
2. Paint brush
3. Rub off Transfers in floral and Ivy prints. (make sure you choose ones to match your paint)
4. Pint of Urethane
5. Jigsaw
6. Round Planter

Step 1. Sand any areas that will need sanded on the chair.

Step 2. Measure your planter and subtract 1 inch. Its best to use one of those clay tampered planters with the thick ring at the top. You will then trace a circular pattern on to the seat of the chair smaller then the opening of the planter so the chair hole will hold the planter in its seat.

Step 3: Using the jigsaw cut out the circle pattern in the chair and sand areas around the hole.

Step 4. Paint the chair with enough paint to have a nice even look. Let the paint dry for 24 hours before moving on to step 5.

Step 5. Using rub on transfers decorate your chair as you wish to do so. You can also be creative here and hand paint designs onto the chair. Your not stuck with just using transfers.

Step 6. Using the urethane paint the chair very well. I put 3 to 4 coats on since this will be outside and you need to get it as waterproof as possible. Let this dry at least 24 hours before putting your planted flower pot inside.

I've actually done something similar. It's fun and cheery.
