How to Eat Healthy #1: Read Nutrition Labels

The first thing you must do, when deciding to eat healthy, is to read nutrition labels. You will need to know how many calories, fat grams, sugar grams, etc. are in the foods you eat. It's also important to know how much of each of these you should have in your diet.

How to Eat Healthy #2: Look at the Ingredients

A good rule to follow, when you want to eat healthy, is if you can't pronounce it you probably shouldn't eat it. All those hard to pronounce words, located in the ingredients list, are usually preservatives. Look for foods that have short lists containing natural ingredients. These foods will naturally be healthier.

How to Eat Healthy #3: Avoid Preservatives

If you're looking for healthy ways to eat, you will want to avoid preservatives. Unfortunately, many foods at your local grocery store are loaded with preservatives. An easy way to get around this is to make your own food. Choose ingredients that are healthy and be sure to choose ingredients that are healthier than those found in supermarket foods.

How to Eat Healthy #4: Choose Fresh Foods

The easiest way to eat healthy is to choose fresh foods. Rather than loading your pantry with canned vegetables, why not choose fresh instead? If you have a hard time finding fresh vegetables, choose frozen. The most important thing is to stay away from canned vegetables which are loaded with salt and preservatives.

How to Eat Healthy #5: Choose Entrees from the Light Menu

When you are trying to eat healthy, you should do everything possible to also choose healthy foods when you eat out. The best way to do this is to look for restaurants that offer a light menu. This is usually pretty easy to find. Many restaurants are now catering to the needs of people who want to eat healthier.

How to Eat Healthy #6: Avoid Fatty Dressings

Instead of topping your salad with ranch dressing, why not make a salad dressing using olive oil and vinegar instead? Olive oil is heart healthy making it the perfect choice for a salad dressing. This is also great on sandwiches in the place of mayonnaise.
