Baseball Birthday Cake: How to Make a Three Dimensional Baseball Birthday Cake
Don't be scared, if you were able to play with play dough as a kid, then you can easily work with the fondant icing that covers this three dimensional baseball cake.
This is the perfect baseball cake for a little girl or little boy's birthday party.
To Make a Three Dimensional Baseball Cake You will need:
1 of your favorite boxed white cake mixes
1 Box of Fondant Icing Mix
Red Marzipan
Oven proof bowl
Paring in knife
Black writing icing
1 tub icing

Bake your favorite cake mix as usual. You need to bake it in a oven proof glass bowl. A stainless steel bowl will work as well.
Bake until a tooth pick or wood skewer inserted into the cake comes out clean. You will need to bake it longer than the box says since it is thicker.
Once the cake has cooled flip it out of the glass bowl or stainless steel bowl onto a large platter, carving board, or whatever you have. Now, you really should go ahead and place the three dimensional baseball cake on a board or serving platter before you decorate it. You will not be able to move it once you decorate it or you will ruin it.
Now, take your 1 tub of the icing. Coat the entire Baseball Cake with a thick coat of icing.
Now, mix your fondant icing according to the directions on the box. Roll it out with a rolling pin to about 1.4 inch thick.
Use the rolling pin to help pick this slab of icing up and drape it over your cake. Overlap the baseball cake completely.
Now, use a paring knife to trim around the edges and neaten it up.
Now, take your red marzipan, which can be bought at any craft store or cake decorating store, and roll it out to a 1.8 inch large piece.
Use you paring knife to cut out the tiny stitches you see on a baseball. All you need to do is make a large number roof red strips, then you can place them on the baseball cake like you see them on a real baseball. You may want to keep a real baseball nearby for inspiration.
I like to take a toothpick and lightly trace the lines I will need to follow when placing the red stitches on the three dimensional baseball cake.
