I have been to both Islands of Adventure and Universal Studios a few times each and have decided long ago that Universal only has a couple things I like and definitely not enough to warrant spending the money for a ticket. But when I saw a deal on the Universal web site for a 1 day 2 park pass I figured what the heck. It was only about $6.00 more than a one day ticket into Islands of Adventure and I love Islands of Adventure.

The deal was perfect for someone who has been to both parks and only wants to do certain things. We were lucky in Universal Studios that the lines were short so we were able to see and ride what we wanted. However, when we got to Islands of Adventure the lines ran about 45 minutes so for $15.00(+ tax) per person we got the express pass.

The express pass allows you to bypass the regular line and head off another path to the front. You can do this once per ride and your pass is scanned and signed at the entrance to each ride. Admittedly this does cost a bit if you are taking a family, however, with a 45 minute wait whittled down to 5-10 minutes it does allow you more time to enjoy things without having to feel you have to run through the park to see it all. There is an one day-two park express pass also available for 25.00 (+ tax) per person

The parks also boast a meal deal which prices at about $19.00 per person for one park. We chose not to get that this time and tracked how much we spent to see if it would be worth it to consider for our next visit. For one full meal, including drinks, at a burger place in Islands of Adventure we spent $17.00 for the both of us…we would have had to each eat one more time to make it almost even and three times to make it a real deal. You are given particular places that honor the deal and are allowed to get one plate at a time. It also does not include drinks. This is not really a deal unless you are a large eater.

Takeaways
  • Look over deals closely and make sure you will use enough to make it worth it.
  • Paying to get "expressed" through the line is worth it.
