Coffee Table on a Budget: How to Paint a Faux Tuscan Coffee Table

You can resurface an existing wood or laminate coffee table to look like hand made Tuscan tiles in one weakened. The warm look of this Tuscan Tiled Coffee Table will warm up any room in your home as well as update an old coffee table.

You will need:

Egg Shell Or Semi Gloss Paint (True greige, Sturdy Brown, and Chamois Brown from Sherwin Williams)
3"bristle brushes (3)
Roller brush
4 Paint trays
Glaze Medium

Primer
Sand paper
Coffee Table
Blue tape in ¼" width (2 roles for a large kitchen)
Scissors or exacto knife

Keep in mind that you want large tiles on the border of the table and smaller tiles in the center. The Tuscan tile would continue in matching hues, but larger tiles might be used in the border of the Coffee Table.

Now, the first step is to lightly sand your laminate Coffee Table.

Next, you need to wipe away any debris and apply on or two coats of primer.

Let this dry.

Now, paint the entire coffee table out in a coat of True Greige from Sherwin Williams.

A nice warm gray color is perfect for the grout. A color like True Greige from Sherwin Williams would work well for this project.

Once this has dried you are ready to start taping off your faux tile son the coffee table.

I begin by taping off the Coffee Table top. Leave the legs plain and painted.

The thin blue painter's tape will be your grout line. Use scissors or an exacto knife to cut your painters tape so you do not have any rough edges.

Now that your Tuscan faux tile Coffee Table top is taped off you can start painting.

For this project it would be best to create a few different looks for your tiles based on your two paints. Have one tile be closer to the Chamois Brown, the second tile be close to the Sturdy Brown paint color from Sherwin Williams, and create a third unique paint color by mixing an equal combination of the two paints.

Mix your Tuscan tile colors in their own paint trays first. Now, add some glaze.

Tip: The tiles should not be a flat or solid color. When you are applying your paint on the Coffee Table top do not over work it. You want some variation in the paint.
