George Clooney Pays Children $20 at Local North Carolina Lemonade Stand

Children Receive Surprise as George Clooney Stops by Their Lemonade Stand

Some celebrities frequent restricted access nightclubs and overpriced restaurants with multiple course meals.

George Clooney, however, is more likely to frequent an old-fashioned establishment like that of a childrens' lemonade stand in Tobaccoville, N.C.

Clooney, who is currently on location in Tobaccoville, noticed that a group of kids had taken it upon themselves to set up an old-fashioned lemonade stand near the set of his latest production, Leatherheads.

Carter, Chandler and Chase Fontaine, ranging in age from 5 to 10, were going about business as usual on Wednesday when Clooney made an appearance at the "establishment." Clooney posed for pictures with the boys' mother, Courtney Fontaine, as well as others, mostly women.

Courtney insisted that Clooney take some of the lemonade for free after graciously posing for photographs. However, Clooney refused the offer and soon sent over an assistant to pay the children for their lemonade.

The assistant paid the children with a $20 bill and happily told the children that no change was required.

Carter, the oldest of the children, then went about marketing the business to the rest of the public. He made an impromptu sign that stated, "George Clooney was here!" 6 year old Chandler also made sure to inform his potential customers that George Clooney had paid $20 for his lemonade.

This is not the first time that Clooney has helped out a lemonade start-up. Earlier this year, Clooney donated items to Kyle Orent for auction on Ebay. Kyle, an 8 year old devoted fundraiser for Canine Companions for Independence, had been selling lemonade to fund his favorite charity. Orent auctioned off the items donated by Clooney (as well as other celebrities such as Chris Rock) and eventually raised over $20,000 for the charity.

The film, Leatherheads, not only stars Clooney, but is also his follow-up directorial effort to Good Night and Good Luck for which he was nominated for an Academy Award for Achievement in Directing. This will be Clooney's third feature film directorial outing.

Loved reading this. My hubby met George Clooney when they were filming Ocean's 12 and said he is the most down to earth person you could ever meet.

It was nice that you mentioned about Kyle's charity work, but the name was incorrect. The name of the charity Kyle's worked so hard to assist with his lemonade stand and his charity auction is Canine Companions for Independence, not canine champions. It was great that you mentioned it though. And yes, you have never met a nicer or more genuine actor than George Clooney.
