For many people baby sitting is the first job that they ever have. If this is your first time being a baby sitter there are things that you can do to help ensure that the family of the person that you are babysitting calls you again for future jobs. The first thing that you should do when you get a babysitting job is arrive a few minutes early to the house that you will be babysitting the child or children at. Arriving early is definitely a good first impression. When you arrive to the home fill out the emergency information and ask the parents any questions before they leave and raise any concerns that you may have before they leave. The next thing that you should do is ask for emergency information such as phone numbers, name of contacts and directions to the house, this information is very important because if something is to happen you need to have information on the people you may need to contact. Make sure that you bring an emergency checklist because the parents of the child or children that you are babysitting may not have one. If the home you are babysitting at has a dog that you feel uncomfortable around tell the parents to put the dog in a room or outside, you are being paid to baby sit children not animals. After this stuff is taken care of walk through the home and do a safety check, look for possible hazards such as hanging electrical cords, matches, medication. Make sure to keep this stuff out of reach of the child because it can be very dangerous if they get their hands on it. Also close the doors to the rooms that you want the children to stay out of. If the family's home contains a pool you should make sure that all doors are locked and that any doggie doors in the home are secure so the child cannot crawl out through it.
