An Ideal Educational System: A Personal PhilosophyNietzsche once said, "The teacher as a necessary evil: Let us have as few people as possible between the productive minds and the hungry and recipient minds! The middlemen almost unconsciously adulterate the food which they supply. It is because of teachers that so little is learned, and that so badly." If one so famous abhorred the teachers of the world, what other attitudes, negative about education, exist among our society today. The science and art of education must strive to pull away from these negative opinions and pull itself beyond reproach. Students, parents, governments, and the world put educators under the microscope to blame the problems of their communities upon the people who volunteer to serve the same with little pay and greater stress. Teachers are responsible to educate the youth today which will become the citizens and leaders of tomorrow. The philosophy in which they do so must be based in scientific method for the masses and individualized for the student.
In the past, educational systems have striven for perfection but nothing has come close in the opinions of records and the evolutionary course is which education has arisen. An utopianeducational system would have to address historical issues that have been struggled for but never attained. Tozer, Violas, and Senese (2002), describe that philosophical goals were the base of the educational world in which the classical liberals wanted embedded in the American educational system. Virtue was the goal of education during the Jeffersonian Era and the importance of virtue was believed to be essential for the good of life and the good of society. Morality and goodness is a concept that has seemingly left present day educational models. The ideal school would have virtue and recognition for virtue contained within the daily activities of the students and facility. The obstacle faced by the idea of virtue would be that it would appear to be conjoined with religious affiliations and not meet the precept of the separation of church and state.
