Your business is growing and it is time to publish a brochure or catalog of products. To make it truly effective, you need the assistance of a talented, creative and professional copywriter. If this is your first time hiring a copywriter, you probably have no idea how to go about it; what questions to ask and what to look for in a great writer. Relax! It is not actually that hard. Let me share with you my ten tips for finding a phenomenal copywriter.

Tip #1: Know what you need before you hire a copywriter - Although this is a precursor to hiring a copywriter, it is nonetheless a critical element to finding the ideal writer for your project. Take some time to review the project and write down all the things you feel will be necessary to communicate. Consider who your target audience is, what the message is, the tone that you want to convey that message and the response that you want to illicit from the written material. By answering all of these questions, you will be able to gauge each copywriter you interview against these questions to determine which copywriter can help you the most.

Tip #2: Hiring the right copywriter - Different copywriters specialize in different types of copy: website copy, magazine articles, corporate copy, or hard sell advertising copy. For example, website copywriters have expertise in breaking information down for the Internet audience, using 'call to action' copy and include search engine optimization. A print writer will not have that expertise. A marketing copywriter will be extremely adept in writing brochures and company collateral materials, but would not be as good with writing a magazine article. By answering your own questions as outlined in Tip #1 above, you know what you need. Take your time to find a copywriter that meets those needs.
