The Ozark region of northern Arkansas has some of the best game fishing in the country and it's also some of the prettiest wilderness region you will ever see. There are so many camps and campsites that's great for guys who want to just get away from the city stress and take some overnights with their buddies just fishing and hunting. I found some that were perfect for this and all are very near the White River, famous for its prized trout.

Get together a group of men friends and scurry over to the Cotter Trout Dock in Arkansas. You'll have a campground right on the great White River with 15 acres. A commissary boat will go ahead and even prepare all meals for the hungry fishermen--what could be more blissful for men wanting a weekend or longer off with friends? Overnight trips last from 2 to 5 days. Float either the Buffalo or the White Rivers where the fishing is just magnificent. Everything is provided at the base camp on the 15-acre private island on the White River--meals, linens, pillows, cots, gas, linens, ice chests, paddles and even lanterns. Any fish you keep will be cleaned and iced! Trips are $300 per day for three people, and then down from there. This would be a great bonding trip for father-son. Call toll-free at 1-800-364-GAME

Another overnight fishing trip campsite is the Rainbow Drive Resort on the White River again. Weekly rates for the cabins are just $260 for parties 6 or under. But weekly rates for tent camping is only $116. It costs $90 for a full day's rental of a johnboat, and it's $45 for rental of a canoe, including shuttle. There's parking, and campers can bring one pet if 30 lbs. or under. There's also a shower house for cleanup and electrical outlets and sink in the kitchen area. Bring an electric skillet to cook those trout, but you can cook on the grill provided with each cabin and eat like a king! Contact information is rainbow@mtnhome.com or call (870) 430-5217.

Takeaways
  • The White River has some of the bst trout fishing in the country.
