Neopets is an incredible website for kids of all ages. They have a great staff of monitors and any questionable activity or postings on the member boards are addressed quickly. More often than not, if you are a parent of a Neopet fanatic, you get sucked into the website. I have been there for three amazing years, gave played over 260 games, collected 174 avatars and even managed to get a MSP Poogle thanks to the Lab Ray. My current NP balance is 12,483,797; an amount that earned me the much coveted Adam avatar a few months back. Other Maps like the Spooky Treasure Map will award you items and NP instead of granting you access to a secret spot or event.

Personally, I like using Opera to surf the site. I can turn off the scripts that prompt the pop up boxes so I don't have to keep clicking on them to buy something, accept a trade or use the Shop Wizard. Some will say that FireFox is the way to go since it removes the adverts but I like the simplicity of Opera. I have noticed that the browser stalls at times so if it hangs up for more than ten seconds, refresh the page and give it a go again.
