I live in the upper Midwest; therefore, winters can seem pretty endless. Especially since I am the type of person who would much rather be outside worshiping Mother Nature than indoors whining cause I have nothing better to do than to clean my house from top to bottom.

Therefore, when the month of February hits, I start to break out in a rash due to the anxiety of surviving the next few months before camping season starts. Before I realize it, I have infected the whole family and we are all suffering with a spring fever rash that will not allow us to sit for any length of time. We end up gazing outside at the thermometer, and checking the internet for lapses of warm weather so we can get the camper out and start packing the stuff in.

The grandkids start to pull on our sleeves asking when is it going to be time to live outside. Some of them do not realize the concept of time. Such as waiting another two months before the weather will cooperate.

Finally, the rash has disappeared and the fever has gone down. We stumble out the door, yawning and stretching, only to realize we no longer have to put four layers of clothing on just to survive a few moments of fresh air.

We have been camping for over twenty years and I would not want to live without my camper. In our thirty-two foot camper, I feel connected to many things. Let me share these connections with you.

Camping keeps me in touch with nature. We camp out in state parks, which gives us the opportunity to really enjoy nature at its best in South Dakota. When we are camping at the different state parks in South Dakota, we enjoy such activities as walking the hiking trails, bike riding on the many different biking trails, or swimming at the local beaches of the nearby lakes. The best part comes when the campfire is lit, and we start making s'mores.

Camping also keeps me in touch with other people who feel the same as we do. People who have the same respect for nature. Within the community of campers, there is a mutual respect for each other's property. In this community, you will also find a group of family oriented people who love to relax and enjoy the simplicities of life.
