Okay so you blew it! The feeding frenzy that lasted all week has begun to subside. As you wipe the last of the ding-dong filling from your chin, your old familiar friend pops into your head telling you "well you might as well just finish the box, since you blew it already, you piggy." I just hate that voice! At that point you have two choices and only two choices. One, you can listen to that voice and finish off the box of ding-dongs and then move on to the box Twinkies or you can tell that voice where she can stick that box. I personally prefer the second choice.
One of the hardest things to do while changing your eating lifestyle is getting over the pre-programmed negative self-talk. For those of us who have been overweight for any length of time, this is even more of an issue. One that has more then likely contributed to the ups and downs of changing our eating habits.
This nagging voice has more impact than your worst enemy and they're "under the breath" fat jokes. At least we could walk away from them and their comments but our inner voice we are stuck with for life. This voice delights at seeing us fall of the wagon. So much so with every lapse we find our selves standing at that cross road over, and over, Twinkies on one side, Miss skinny jeans on the other and yes the Twinkies are laughing.
Getting to the point where one stops listening to the negative talk is not easy, there is no one magic phrase that will work for everyone. In fact, I think that little voice spends all of its time coming up with new sneaky ways to get you to keep grabbing the Ding-dongs. But the good news is it can be done but it will take some time.
They say it takes 45 days to make, change, or break a habit. This is a good start to begin to change your thinking. It may take some longer or some less, but giving yourself the time to do this, is going to take the pressure off of having to change our thinking right now.
