Paula Abdul's Antics - Tragedy or the Mark of Genius
Train wrecks are tragic circumstances that create deep feelings of shock and sadness but there's also something about the wreckage that stirs the human curiosity so that you can't help but want to see it. In the entertainment industry, Paula Abdul's behavior has created wreckage for our curious minds over and over again.There are the numerous times she has appeared to be drunk on television and during interviews, the time she was fooled by an obvious Sacha Barron prank and of course the times that her American Idol comments were criticized for being off base. The serious wreckage has included the allegations of impropriety with an idol contestant and her admission of being addicted to prescription pills for twelve years.
After all the negative press, Paula still threw caution to the wind, not concerned about being branded a spoiled diva, and abruptly quit American Idol, via a Twitter post. While some may have considered this move unprofessional and another typical Paula Abdul's antic, her fans rallied around her reportedly causing Ms. Abdul to say that "her fan support has been insane". Many wonder whether Idol has lost a significant contributor to the show. After seven years of being an integral part of the show's meteoric rise in the ratings, it seems the parties couldn't come to an agreement on money issues.
Before you take out your hankies in sorrow for Paula, consider that despite the negative press, the Paula Abdul's money train keeps rolling straight to the bank. Prior to her departure, she brokered a deal with the Lifetime Network to make guest appearances on their popular show, Drop Dead Diva. She has a thriving jewelry line and an ongoing endorsement deal for a physical fitness company. In addition, immediately after her abrupt departure from American Idol, she was invited by ABC to guest star on it's top rated show, Ugly Betty.
