Cell phones are becoming the butt of many jokes and are also making more and more people look crazy. Callista Flockhart (Ally McBeal) talks to herself when she's driving down the road. She holds a cell phone to her ear to look like she is talking on it so people don't think that she's crazy. Then she told USA Today about it a few years ago!
I once walked into a bathroom and wound up answering another woman's questions. She was actually asking someone else on her cell phone and I wound up sounding real stupid. I was embarrassed enough to stay in that stall long enough to make sure that she was gone and wouldn't see me when I came back out.
There have been sketches on Saturday Night Live making fun of cell phones. My favorite was one that Chris Kattan and Will Ferrell did where they were working in a store that carries only the "latest items". At the beginning of the sketch, they both have cell phones form the '80s and with each call that they receive, the cell phones get smaller and smaller until it is about the size of a quarter!
I've seen people go around looking like they were talking to themselves. They stand somewhere by themselves, talking, and listening. When I first started seeing this, I had about as much familiarity with modern technology as the Amish. So I thought that the human race as a whole was going crazy! Turns out that these people were only using their cell phones with earpieces.
The worst things about cell phones are text messaging and people who talk about all of the extra gizmos in their phones.
I was in Michigan with my fiancée meeting his family and one night we were sitting at the dinner table with his grandmother and his cousins. All through dinner, one of his cousin's cell phone kept playing the beginning of a rap song and he kept looking at it, pressing a few buttons, and putting it away, only to have to pull it right back out again. I thought he was silencing the calls like I have to do on my cell, but he was texting his girlfriend the whole time! No wonder he didn't talk much.
