The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has announced a voluntary recall issued by Gemy Industries in conjunction with the CPSC for Disney Princesses Easter Baskets. The Disney Princesses Easter Baskets subject to the recall were made by Gemmy Industries and sold at Wal-Mart. Silver beads and ribbons attached to these Easter baskets pose a choking threat for young children.

This recall was announced on April 5, 2007, just three days before Easter. No injuries to children have yet been reported.

With Easter approaching, the CPSC is concerned about these Disney Princesses Easter Baskets getting into the hands of young children who might place the beads and ribbons in their mouths and choke on them. The beads and ribbons can easily detach from the baskets. The CPSC advises parents to remove the beads and ribbons before allowing the children access to the Disney Princesses Easter Baskets or return this recalled item to Wal-Mart for a full refund.

Approximately 8500 Disney Princesses Easter Baskets were sold, nationwide, prior to the CPSC recall announcement. Disney Princess Easter Baskets were sold only at Wal-Mart during February and March of this year. The retail price was approximately $10.

According to the Gemy Industries recall notice, the Disney Princesses Easter Baskets are pink or purple and feature both the words "Disney Princesses" and pictures of the Disney Princess on the front of the Easter baskets. These Disney Princesses Easter Baskets are plush and shaped like a castle with princesses looking out the windows. The beads and ribbons that are the reason for the recall are used as part of flags on the castle turrets. These Easter Baskets are 10 inches high and 8 inches wide, according to the recall notice.

Gemy Industries is a Texas company. The recalled Easter Baskets were made in China.

The style numbers of the recalled Easter Baskets are 41218 and 48900.

Great Article, I was so close to buying this for my little cousin for Easter. I didn't b/c I didn't look safe to me either and then I felt bad for not buying it. I bought her a stuffed Easter duck instead. It's great to see you validated my fears. Thanks. Great article. Bye

Yeah but... what a cool looking basket. I mean, it's a castle! Well worth the risk of a few rugrats choking... (it was a joke people. Back off. HA!)

I saw these baskets in Walmart. My daughter begged me for it, though she's old enough not to put it in her mouth. Seems like prior to even making these things someone in production would have thought to themselves, "Hey, Easter baskets are for kids...sometimes little kids...those are beads...kids....beads...kids...beads...HEY! Those are choking hazards!"

Great time for a recall...try telling your young daughter she can't have her princess basket! Why don't they have an inspection system in place before they even enter the store doors? It would be interesting to know how this system works in depth.
