Driving down Northwest Expressway, a vibrant blue building catches your eye. The parking lot is packed, and tunes from the 1950s float through the air. You can't miss the flashing sign advertising go karts, bumper cars, miniature golf, hot pizza, and more. It is the Warr Acres Incredible Pizza, conveniently located in an abandoned Walmart center just outside of the Oklahoma City limits. "It's the PERFECT place for family fun!" they say. But is it? After driving past but never stopping, for almost 2 years, my husband and I decided to check it out.Stepping in the front doors of Incredible Pizza, we were greeted right away by the friendly staff. "Buffet and drinks for two?" we were asked immediately. (Apparently the only way to gain admission is to purchase their all-you-can-eat buffet). After paying the $17+, we were in the door. To our right was the "Starlight Lounge" - the darkened dining room looked like a drive-in theater, complete with a theater screen playing back-to-back showings of "Herbie Rides Again." Directly across from that was the "Warr Acres Gymnasium" - decorated like a 1950s high school gymnasium, televisions played sports shows. The "Diner" was a brightly lit retro restaurant, complete with red vinyl chairs and tables. Lastly was the "Family Room" - a quaint, wood-paneled eating area with roaring fireplace, and back-to-back episodes of the Andy Griffith Show.
We walked through the buffet line, piling our plates high. Beyond traditional offerings of pizza, pasta, and salad, Warr Acres Incredible Pizza also had child-friendly items such as Goldfish crackers, and peanut butter on celery. We settled ourselves in the Family Room and began our meal. The cleanliness of the facility was astonishing. As one who has been to other 'family fun' restaurants, I can say this was by far the cleanest of any I have visited. We were also pleasantly pleased with the food. I have had better pizza than Incredible Pizza offered - but I have also had far, far worse.
