Halle Berry, gorgeous as ever at age 40, is set on going bald for an upcoming film titled "Nappily Ever After."

While Berry could elect to fake it and wear a cap she apparently has decided to identify closely with her character.

Berry will play a woman who is losing her hair, gets fet up and decides to shave it as a result. Consequently, she is faced with new perceptions of who she is and learns just how her hair defined her.

According to Berry, her character "is forced to look at what beauty is, and it comes from inside."

"I still struggle with this hair issue," she said. "I'm going to get the lesson on film, and hopefully other women will get it, too," Barry told reporters.

But what kind of lesson will it be? On the heels of Britney Spears shaving her head, and allegedly not in a good place as she did it, intentional baldness, for women at least, rings a self-destructive note.

Some eyebrows are raised as Halle Berry recently interviewed with Parade magazine about a 1997 suicide attempt following the divorce with her first husband, David Justice. A confession of that caliber is courageous and helpful to those who battle with depression to see the light at the end of the tunnel. But the question is fair. Is Berry depressed?

Berry claims that life is good for her. "I'm really happy. I'm in a really good space in my life, and I can honestly say it's not because of any one thing," she said. "It's not because I have a really cute boyfriend. It's not because of my career. It's because I feel good about me."

Berry told Parade she's now happy dating boyfriend, model Gabriel Aubry, and has set her sights on her next chapter in life, motherhood.

Berry will join actresses Demi Moore and Sigourney Weaver among other ladies who shaved their head to authentically fill a movie role. The difference is "Nappily Ever After" is a romantic comedy, not a feminized Rambo movie.

Howevery, Berry can accomplish something positive if the message shows women are about more than one part of their anatomy, and that what's inside is what really counts.

It's just hair. Going in the tradition of what others have said, her and Britney are completely different people. Besides, it would seem she's really doing it to get the lesson for herself so she can better teach it to others. Great article. :-)

I would say they are two totally different issues. Britney is pathetic and Berry is doing it for work, great article

A thoughtful take on what most would treat as just another celebrity oddity--nice work!

Great stuff Donna...I am jealous though- the original title to mine was " Halle Berry: Following in the Steps of Britney?" The cm's changed it. :(

I think people read to much into it.

I just don't like bald on anyone. I don't like men who shave their heads, and I don't think it is attractive on the ladies either. A friend of mine is embarrassed about going bald so he shaves his whole head. It really doesn't look better.

Yes she is going too far. Drama is all about using the imagination.
