Ever wanted to be on American Idol? Well now is your chance to write, not sing your way on to Fox's American Idol stage.American Idol's producers and Fox have announced that the show has come up with a brand new competition for all the fans out there. Songwriting is to be the newest contest for the show. Aspiring songwriters are encouraged to submit song entries through American Idol's website, songwriter.americanidol.com, starting now and going until April 17th, 2007. The winner will have a chance for their song to be performed on the show's upcoming season finale. However, each contestant is only allowed to submit one song and there is a $10 entry fee to go along with the song entry.
American Idol's executive producer, Simon Fuller, and his 18 Entertainment A&R staff with select the top 20 song entries. Then beginning on May 2, 2007, fans will be able to go online to listen and vote for their top favorites. The winning song will then be performed by one of the final contestants.
It gets better though. The winning song writer will also get a publishing deal with 19 Entertainment and receive a $10,000 cash advance on royalties for the song.
Fuller himself believes that this will create another star other than the winning singer on American Idol and it will put another songwriter on the map in the industry. The winning songwriter has the chance to make millions on their songs with 19 Entertainment and may also have the opportunity to put together songs for more seasons of American Idol.
Song judges are looking for a song that is two and a half minutes long that has a fun, broad, and modern appeal that any singer of any style can sing.
The only thing the judges are worried about is the contest voters being pranksters and voting for the worst singers, which is obviously Sanjaya Malakar. VoteForTheWorst.com is currently a site where these pranksters gather.
Remember to go to songwriter.americanidol.com to submit your songs by April 17th!
