Local Dance Studios Teach All Forms of Dance

Television shows like "Dancing With The Stars" and "Ballroom Bootcamp" have definitely helped to fuel a resurgence of interest on the part of Americans to learn to dance. And why not? Dancing is fun and as well as great exercise. Plus, it certainly brings a couple closer together in a very sensual w

ay.

Most little girls, at some point in their lifetime, yearn to learn to dance. I'm not sure that yearning ever really ends. Most boys, on the other hand, would beg, cajole, and do whatever else it might take to stay away from the dance floor. Until now. Now, dancing is cool! If it's good enough for football legend Emmitt Smith, it is not good enough for a lot of young men.

The Virginia Peninsula, which consists of the cities of Hampton, Newport News, and Poquoson and the counties of York and James City, offers a myriad of places to go for those who want to learn how to dance. Here are the ones I located and their various areas of expertise:

Academmie De Ballet, 28 Harpersville Road, Newport News. The academy offers training in classical ballet, adagio, tap, jazz, hip-hop, and lyrical. They provide lessons for both boys and girls, from age four and up. The facility offers spring floors and features a viewing gallery. They boast several students who have been accepted by major ballet companies and on Broadway as well as receipt of dance scholarships to multiple universities.

Academy of Dance and Gymnastics, Inc., 802-A West Mercury Boulevard, Hampton. Winner of 1053 national awards in its 25 years of excellence. Dance Masters of America, Dance Educators of America, and the Professional Dance Teachers Association certifies the studio. They provide instruction in jazz, tap, ballet, pointe, hip-hop, and gymnastics.

Amy's Dance Studio, 838 J. Clyde Morris Boulevard, Newport News. Highly experienced and friendly instructors provide lessons in ballroom, Latin, disco, and swing dance. They accept single, couple, and group lessons and people of all ages.

  • TV shows "Dancing With The Stars" and "Ballroom Bootcamp" have reignited interest in dance.
  • Peninsula studios teach everything from country line to Irish step.
  • Dance instruction is available from age three to 103.

Hello my name is Jade and I'm based at Langley AFB. I am huge into dance and am looking to take classes, that don't require a recital and also volunteering opportunities to get involved in the community. I haven't been able to spend much time in the VA Pen area, so everything is somewhat new. I have tap, jazz, ballet, and competitive dance team experience. I was pleased to come across your site, and wondered if the studios you referenced had websites or links to visit. My email is jade_carmel@hotmail.com If you aren't able to email me I enjoyed your page and will be visiting again. Thank you for your time!

P.S. What did you do to enrage the derater? He's chased down a new article on CP page before it even got a chance to get to page one. Shame on that nasty derater.
