Product Review: Plantronics Cordless Phone M214C Headset

The Plantronics Cordless Phone M214C Headset has proven to me the convenience of being able to talk on the phone hands-free. The quality of the item is somewhat flimsy in regard to materials but the clarity of sound and quality of the microphone speak highly of this low-cost device. If you've ever spent many hours on the phone, you know that holding a phone up to your ear, no matter how light, gets tiring after a while. If you actually want to do something while you're on the phone, it's almost impossible. Need to take a quick note down? Good luck not dropping the phone while you're scrambling with a pen and paper. Want to look up something online while talking to a friend? Unless you've mastered one handed typing and the art of juggling the phone while trying to use a mouse, you need a new solution.
Over the last couple days I've put the M214C headset to the test. I've used it for several calls and spent quite a lot of time chatting with a few friends. It's completely easy to use, it plugs into most cordless or mobile phones. It has a volume control for both hearing and for the microphone. It also has a "one-touch" mute button. The cord seems long enough as long as you are willing to carry the phone on your belt or in a pocket if you're moving around. If you're at a desk it's length is just fine.
I'm easily able to hear the other person without a problem although I find I always have the volume set to maximum. The same goes for the microphone. I've had no complaints and haven't been asked to speak up at all.
The nicest feature, of course, is that with a headset like this your hands are free to do whatever you need. Typing, jotting down notes, searching the Internet or folding your clothes. Probably the most undesirable thing about this headset is that the volume control seems cheaply made. Other than that, it's a solid product.
The M214C headset is a perfect start for anyone considering a headset for their cordless or mobile phone and are unwilling to spend more money for a pricier model. Whether you choose this headset or another, I highly recommend to anyone who spends a lot of time using the phone to pick one up and try it. It's really a nice change.
