The Linksys WRT54G Wireless-G router is a very good wireless router, that works well, once it is set up. Although the original configuration can be difficult if you are setting up advanced encryption options, such as WPA, once it is running it seems to run smoothly. It has an excellent range, and gives me a strong connection from anywhere in my house. Out of the two other wireless routers I have used, this one is definitely the most reliable, and has the added benefit of also acting as a wired Ethernet hub. Be advised, though, that unlike some routers provided by internet service providers, the WRT54G does not have a built in DSL modem.

Setup is the only potential issue with this wireless router. Encryption can be a bit of a hassle to set up, but only if you are using the more advanced options, which most home users would probably not bother with. WIFI encryption, for those of you who are wondering what I am talking about, serves the basic purpose of keeping other people from mooching off your connection. It will most likely be unnecessary, depending on where you live. If you do live in a densely populated area, however, you will likely want to set up this feature, to keep all your neighbors from tying up your bandwidth. The basic options will likely suit your purposes just fine, though, and you will have no reason to mess with WPA. Worry about that only if you are planning to use this router for commercial purposes.

Takeaways
  • Setup is the only potential issue with this wireless router.
  • Aside from the setup, this seems to be a wonderful router.
